Marble

What is Marble?

Marble is a metamorphic rock – that has undergone transformation by heat, pressure, or other natural method while in the earth’s crust. Marble is made primarily of mineral calcite and most of the time has minerals such as clay, micas, quartz, pyrite, iron, and graphite, which lends it the veining on white or provides the different colors marble is known for.

Under the pressure, heat or magma delineated by the metamorphic process, the calcite in the limestone re-crystallizes to form a stone that is characterized by interlocking calcite crystals. This is why you will see marble deposits seismic plate boundaries where large areas of the Earth’s crust are exposed to these events. This re-crystallization is what indicates the separation between marble and limestone. The metamorphic process makes marble more compact and less porous

What colors does Marble come in?

Marble comes in a large variety of colors, depending on the amount of minerals deposited with the calcite (limestone) and the region and metamorphic conditions that creates the marble. Therefore marble comes in a variety of colors with a combination of vein colors. Colors range from white, light beige, beige, yellow/gold, red, gray/silver, light brown, brown, and black.

Veining and color textures caused by other mineral deposits have a similar color variation as well as different pattern variations, appearing as defined or diffused veins, diffused color, granular texture, streaks, crackle or a combination of any of these. As a product of nature, each piece of tile or paver is unique: expect to see some variations within each selection of stone.

Sefa Stone has the following color of stones available: White with veining or defused color or veining, Beige Marble with veining and/or speckled color, Light Gray or Dark Gray with veining and/or speckled texture, and Brown with veining and/or diffused color.
