Do’s and Don’ts of Marble Cleaning
Unlike what is known by so many people, marble cleaning is not a difficult or time consuming work to do. Even though marble needs a unique and special cleaning routine, which should be done on a regular basis, it is really simple after you learn how to do it correctly. If you want to use the marble floors, tiles or other surfaces for long times and you want the marble to look shiny all the time, you should be careful about the cleaning materials that you apply on the marble. There are a lot of options available in the stores and you can even try some DIY cleaning products as long as they do not contain any descaling agents.

Do: Seal the Marble Only When Needed.
It is true that marble surfaces require sealing since it might need extra protection against external factors such as water, moisture and dust. After you purchase the sealant from your local store, apply it on the marble surface according to the instructions on the package of the product. This is not a time consuming or very challenging work if you follow the instructions correctly.
Don’t: Do not Seal the Marble Frequently.
Some marble types do not even need sealing. You should learn it before furnishing or decorating your house. The other types, however, requires sealing but not so often. If you apply sealant more than needed, since the marble cannot absorb excessive amount of sealant, there will be a thick coat on the marble surface, which will create an unpleasant look.
Do: Clean the Spills As Soon As Possible.
If you read the articles on our blog, you should have learnt that marble is a sensitive rock compared to others (e.g. granite). It has a porous structure, which makes it sensitive against acidic substances such as coffee, fruit juice, wine, soda and harsh cleaning products. This is why you should clean any spills on the marble immediately. If you leave them on the surface, such substances will have an abrader effect and lead to permanent stains on the marble.
Don’t: Do not Use Anti-Scaling Cleaning Agents.
It is highly important for you to utilize correct products for cleaning such a sensitive material. Since marble is a different formation of limestone, never ever use anti-scaling agents to clean it. Such agents not only cause dullness on the surface but also damage the natural form and structure of the marble.
Do: Use Sponge or Soft Piece of Cloth to Clean Marble
Warm water and special marble cleaning product will be enough for cleaning the stains and dirt on the marble surfaces. Mix the water and soft cleaning product in a bucket and apply the mixture with the help of a sponge or a soft cloth. Then rinse and dry the area thoroughly. Soft materials like sponge or cloth will prevent scratches on the marble surfaces.
Don’t: Do not Leave the Marble Floors Wet.
Due to its porous nature, marble easily absorbs liquids. If you do not dry the marble surface and let it wet after you clean it, the surface absorb the water, which will create a dull appearance and make it sticky.
Do: Mop the Marble Floors to Eliminate Dust
A clean and dry dust mop will be good enough to clean the dust on the marble floor. You can also use vacuum cleaner but be careful! The edge of the vacuum can cause scratches on the sensitive marble surface.
Don’t: Do not Stand or Sit on Marble Countertops.
Marble countertops are not as flexible and strong as granite or laminate countertops. Do not lean on, sit or stand on marble countertops while cleaning, which might cause you slip or fall and lead to serious injuries.
